(Forgive the lack of a hyperlink...tech problems)
This is one of those things that make me ashamed for my Church. In the face of all evidence that sexual orientation is NOT chosen (and given the general treatment of homosexuals in our society, who would choose such a thing?), this Cardinal Barragan states unequivocally that "gays will never enter into the reign of God."
No one...not my parish priest, not Cardinal Barragan, not the Holy Father himself, can judge the state of another's soul. To do so is arrogant, prideful, and the height of uncharitable, un-Christian thought. To do so against an entire chunk of the population is far worse and smacks of blatant discrimination and ignorance. How do we build up our Church when our leadership is so concerned with keeping people out that they forget to let people in???
A blogger who commented on this story quotes Hillaire Belloc's description of the Church"...an institution run with such knavish imbecility that were it not the work of God it would not last a fortnight."
Amen, Hillaire. Amen, indeed.

Thomas

Sorry, but, I will judge someone's behavior. Conscience tells me that homosexuality is wrong, as is pedophilia, as is bestiality. Why is it in our society that homosexuality is looked as something normal, while the very same people who condone homosexuality are horrified at pedophilia.
ReplyDeleteThere is no evidence to prove that homosexuality is innate. Even if it was, why would that make the behavior acceptable? Do you also believe pedophilia is innate? By your logic, it should be, because whether we like it nor not, that would be a "sexual orientation" yet you would find it abhorrent and condemn those people to hell. I find so much hypocrisy here. The reason why "I" get so mad at the church sometimes is that too many lay people see nothing wrong in a perversion like homosexuality yet they decry pedophilia. When will they realize that it was the homosexuals in the church who caused the pedophilia. That the majority of the victims were teenaged boys, homosexuals themselves. Its time to face the truth. But the world is too politically correct and the laity such as yourself believing that homosexuality, which ultimately hurts society and children and leads to pedophilia, is just a ok.
Sara, it seems you took quite an interest in this blog last month. Thank you for reading!
ReplyDeleteA couple of things -
1) I can judge other people's behavior as well. I judge yours to be ignorant and boorish.
2) Every psychiarist that has a license to practice concurs that a true homosexual orientation is NOT CHOSEN.
3)Yes, the Catechism teaches that an homosexual orientation is "disordered". Let's see what else it states about homosexuality:
"2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. THEY DO NOT CHOOSE THEIR HOMOSEXUAL CONDITION; FOR MOST OF THEM IT IS A TRIAL. THEY MUST BE ACCEPTED WITH RESPECT, COMPASSION, AND SENSITIVITY. EVERY SIGN OF UNJUST DISCRIMINATION IN THEIR REGARD SHOULD BE AVOIDED. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition."
The Catechism gives no similar guidance for pedophiles. Why do you compare/equate them when the Church clearly does not? Why do you not accept homosexuals with respect, compassion, and sensitivity, like our Catechism states we ought?
Before you trumpet the errors of "liaty like me" about Church teaching, learn what our Church teaches.
Peace.
Tom, it's amazing you can even craft a response to such convoluted "reasoning." There's just way too many irrelevancies and tangents for me to even follow that. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteThank you...I've had a lot of practice.
